Sailing is better with a friend. Here's how to bring one along.

How it works

Sign up, invite a buddy, sail together

Once you're signed up for a Free Ride, Sea Leg Saturday, Crew Days or Crew Bank date, you can invite up to two friends to join you on that date. They sign up themselves from a link we email them, and they meet the same requirements you did.

  1. Sign up for a date

    Sign up for a date on the Crew page like you normally would. Once you're in, you'll see Bring a buddy next to "Can't make it".

  2. Invite your buddy

    Enter your buddy's name and email, and confirm they're 18 or older (our sailing activities are for adults only). We email them a link to sign up by 10 p.m. the night before.

    Only want to go if your buddy goes? Tick I'm only going if my buddy comes. If they can't make it, don't qualify or don't sign up by the deadline, we'll cancel your sign-up and let you know.

  3. Your buddy signs up

    Your buddy opens the link in their email. If they already meet the requirements and we have their details, it's one tap: Yes, sign me up. New buddies just add their name and cell phone.

    Not there yet? The page shows exactly what they still need, with links to our free online courses. When they're done, they tap I'm done, check again.

    We'll put the two of you in the same time slot when there's room.

  4. See who's coming

    Your sign-up shows each buddy and whether they're coming. We email you when they sign up, can't make it, or miss the deadline.

The fine print

Same requirements for everyone

Buddies need the same courses, membership and coach-verified skills as anyone else signing up for that activity. The courses are free and online.

Sea Leg Saturdays

Bringing a friend who isn't a member yet? Once they finish our free Intro to Sailing course, they come as a Free Introductory Ride, and Bob pairs you up on the water.

Crew Days and Crew Bank

To sail with you, your buddy has to meet the same Crew Days or Crew Bank requirements you did. If they don't, they can't sail with you. On Crew Days that also offer Free Rides, they can take a Free Ride that day instead, but with a different skipper.

Your spot isn't held while you wait

On Crew Days and Crew Bank, if you're only going if your buddy comes, your spot isn't held until they sign up. Anyone ready to book can take the open spots, and if the date fills up first, your sign-up is released and we email you both.

Deadline: 10 p.m. the night before

Buddies need to sign up by 10 p.m. the night before, so we can still move people into earlier time slots before the day. We send your buddy one reminder the day before the deadline.

Up to two buddies per sign-up. Adults 18 and older only. Wednesday Beer Can Racing isn't included; talk to Dan about bringing crew.

For organizers

Buddies show up together on your roster

  1. On the admin page, each buddy is listed right under the sailor who invited them, marked Buddy of…. The sailor who invited them shows who they're bringing and whether they're coming, and a pending sign-up that's waiting on its buddy is marked so you know it isn't a sure thing. The Buddies tab lists every invite for your dates.
